The ParalympicGB wheelchair curlers reached the final of the British Open which was their last competitive outing ahead of the Paralympics and narrowly missed out at an extra end to Korea, who they will meet again at the Games next month. .

The British Paralympic representatives competing as Team Scotland at the event hosted at Lanarkshire Ice Rink were unbeaten throughout the tournament, which included Paralympic representatives from Sweden and Germany as well as Denmark’s national team among the high quality field.

Skip Aileen Neilson who is looking forward to competing in her third Paralympic Games in PyeongChang next month felt the team - comprising Sochi team mates Gregor Ewan, Angie Malone MBE, Robert McPherson as well as Games debutant Hugh Nibloe - performed consistently well throughout the tournament.

“We reached the semi finals undefeated and secured a win against Sweden’s Paralympic team to face Korea in the final. It was an extremely close game with only blank ends and singles being exchanged,” said Neilson.

“Team Scotland had to steal in the extra end and were lying shot until the Korean skip played a great take out through the port to take the victory.

“The event provided a great opportunity to compete in a high class line up and was a great confidence boost beating the German and Swedish Paralympic teams just before the Games.

"We have received lots of messages of support from friends and family and it is nice to know that everyone back home will be rooting for us when we are in PyeongChang competing for Great Britain,” she added.

The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games take place from March 9-18 with the wheelchair curling event running from 10-17 March. .
