Newly crowned Scottish Champions Team Jackson will be joined by two time Olympian Lauren Gray as their alternate, when they make their debut at the LGT World Women’s Curling Championships in Silkeborg, Denmark, next month (16-24 March 2019).

Jackson’s rink, twice winners of the Scottish Junior Championships and world junior silver medallists in 2017, won their first Scottish Championship title earlier this month when they beat Team Muirhead in the final at Perth.

Gray, who has been lead for Team Muirhead since 2016 and was part of the bronze medal winning quartet at the European Championships that year, before going on to win bronze at the World Championships and gold at the European Championships in 2017, brings a wealth of experience to the team and skip Sophie Jackson is excited to have her on board.

Jackson, who hails from Dumfries, said: “Lauren is an excellent addition to our team as our fifth player. She has competed at the highest level of the game and is an extremely accomplished international player who has also had experience of being an alternate at the World Championships in 2013 and Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, winning gold and bronze respectively.

“We are really looking forward to the World Championships and it is great to have Lauren on board as she will bring experience and support to the team, both on and off the ice, for our first campaign at the World Women’s.”

Lauren Gray, from Glasgow said: “I was delighted to be asked and I am really excited to be supporting Sophie’s team at their first World Champs. It is a wonderful opportunity and always an honour to be representing your country, in any capacity and I am really looking forward to it and it is great to be part of the team and their endeavours to succeed.”

Thirteen teams will take part in the championships hosted at Silkeborg Sportscentre next month.
