AthletesUK Sport distributes lottery funding to help Britain’s best and most talented athletes achieve podium success. Athletes identified in this section are current British supported athletes who benefit from enhanced training and competition support courtesy of UK Sport Podium funding. The athletes currently follow a British Curling Performance Programme and in May 2008, once the Olympic /Paralympic Squads are identified then the support will alter slightly to become an Olympic and Paralympic 2010 programme. Over the course of this 2010 cycle it is likely that BC will also support programmes aimed at the World University Games and the European Youth Olympic Festival. Athletes involved in this level of support will be identified in this section as and when these programmes move into a delivery phase.
In addition to Podium funding UK Sport, through lottery funding, also distributes Athlete Personal Award resource. Athletes are nominated by governing bodies of sport that have been awarded this funding to assist athletes in accessing essential support services, such as coaching, training camps, competition and sport science.
Dave Murdoch, Ewan MacDonald and Euan Byers received an Athlete Personal Award (APA) through British Curling in 2006, after achieving 4th place at the Winter Olympics and Winning the World Championships.
Kelly Wood, Jackie Lockhart, Lorna Vevers and Lindsay Wood recieved an APA award in 2007 after winning a bronze medal at the World Championships.
